The Worthington Area YMCA is proud to offer full American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and First Aid/ CPR/ AED Certification courses to our community and the surrounding areas. We offer Lifeguarding Certification, Lifeguard Review, First Aid/CPR Certification and first Aid/CPR Review classes several times a year. Check below for our current and upcoming Lifeguarding and First Aid/CPR Certifications and Reviews.
BLENDED CLASSES (ONLINE + IN PERSON)
The American Red Cross offers some classes in a blended version to allow participants to complete the majority of the lecture portion of the class on their own time. If you are signing up for a blended class, you must be registered by the date specified as the registration deadline for the class. Once registration has closed, participants registered for the class will receive two separate emails, one from the American Red Cross with a link to the modules that must be completed and the other from the Worthington Area YMCA with further instruction. These modules must be completed before the first in-person session. Failure to complete the modules before the first in-person session may result in failure of the class. If you have questions about ability to complete any pre-requisits for the lifeguarding course, please contact the Worthington Area YMCA and set up a time with our Aquatics Director to come in and give the pretest a try before completing the online portion of the class.
ADULT AND PEDIATRIC FIRST AID/ CPR/ AED
The courses in this program teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. This course covers Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and the use of an AED. To pass this class participants must complete the online portion of the class, attend the full in-person session, complete all skill sessions, and take a written exam with a passing score of 80%.
