Learning Camp

As schools districts transition to various in person and distance learning models, the YMCA will now also offer programming during school hours to provide children a space where they can attend virtual classes while supervised by Y staff.

The YMCA is offering flexible and enriching programs for youth, while also providing essential childcare to those parents and families who need to return to work. The Y will work with families and their children’s in person/distance learning model to ensure their child(ren) have consistent and convenient care to help kids stay connected, engaged and on track throughout the day.

As an organization dedicated to youth development, we know how important it is that our children have an equitable, safe and enriching environment to learn, grow and thrive. Children attending the program will use their devices provided by their school. Outside of distance learning, the Y will also provide arts and STEM activities, physical activity and outdoor recreation activities following MDH and CDC guidelines. Financial assistance is available to ensure every Kindergartner through 8th grader has the opportunity to learn and grow at the Y.

In order to help keep children and staff safe throughout the school year, the YMCA will follow state and local requirements and guidance of medical experts in the day-to-day operations including:

  • Daily health screenings for participants and staff
  • Reduced capacity in group activities
  • “Pod” serving of snacks and meals
  • Cleaning, handwashing and social distancing protocols that conform to the Department of Health standards

For more information and to sign up for the Y’s Learning Camp, visit or contact YMCA staff directly at 507-376-6197.
